Match Cards

Frequently asked questions about Match Cards

How many missed attempts am I allowed?

It depends on the number of cards and the level: with 12 cards in pairs, the limit is 20 missed attempts on Easy and 11 on Hard. With 60 cards, it goes up to 94 on Easy. The attempt counter shows the missed attempts and the limit for the game.

What happens when the flipped cards don't match?

After 1.5 seconds, they flip back face down, in the same place. The attempt counts as missed. Nothing else moves, unless the game was started with a reshuffle.

What is the difference between Easy, Medium and Hard?

On Easy, each group shows a different subject, in its first image. On Medium, the version of each subject's image is picked at random from 5. On Hard, several groups show the same subject in different versions: only exactly identical images go together, and the attempt limit is lower.

How do I play with triplets?

Choose "3 cards" in the New game window: each image then appears three times, and an attempt flips three cards. The board has 12, 21, 30 or 54 cards. All three cards must be identical for the triplet to stay visible.

What is the game code for?

Each game has a code, for example MM2-PAAU-AAAAAAB. Entered in the New game window, it brings back exactly the same cards in the same places, with the same settings. It lets you replay a game or share it with someone else.

Why does a window open after each attempt on Hard?

On the Hard level, the images look very much alike: the app tells you whether the flipped cards are the "Same image" or "Different images". The Continue button closes the window, and the "Don't show again during this game" checkbox turns it off until the end of the game. It changes neither the cards nor the counter.

Can you always win?

Without a reshuffle, yes, with a good memory: across 500 games of 12 cards on Hard drawn by the app, a player who forgets no card misses at most 5 times, for a limit of 11. For a real player, the difficulty comes from memory: the bigger the board, the easier it is to forget a position.

What images are on the cards?

The app's catalog has 2,190 subjects, arranged in 50 families and 5 categories: animals, transport, home, food, nature and leisure. You choose a family, a whole category or "All families" in "Card type".
